  1. Hi, I couldn't find anywhere to contact you on your blog. I am putting together the 1978 A-Frame house without instructions and was wondering if you had a post about it, that I just couldn't find or instructions??? PLEASE help!

  2. Hello. They are on Ebay for $1.79. the seller will email you scanned images to you. I used to mail photocopies but this way is easier, faster, cheaper and you get crisper images. cut and paste this link...

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/BARBIE-DREAM-HOUSE-A-Frame-Dollhouse-Build-Instructions-/350511394499?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519c1b6ec3#ht_1954wt_1156

if it doesn't work then just search ebay using 1978 barbie a frame house instructions and it will pop right up.

  3. THanks so much! I just bought them, hopefully they email me quickly! Just washed everything last night and sitting down to put it together tonight. Luckily I remember taking it apart a little bit. I had the original, this is the pink and white one.

  4. I remember seeing the furnished A-frame in a toy store about 1981. I think it was about $100 then, so I don't know what the price equivalent would be now.

  5. Hello, I am enjoying your blog so much. I am one of those "bored housewives with a can of spray paint." I have a really bad condition pink one (free on CL!) that I'm attempting to paint with the black/brown combo that you approved of. I felt I had the permission of the "A frame Gods" since this was the dreaded pink house. Tell me about the achilles heal of the a frame - the column covers. How important is it to restore those or is it acceptable to engineer replacement covers?

  6. @Circlecityvegan: So glad you are liking the blog. This is a unique passion to say the least. The pink to black project you are working on sounds very promising. As for the column covers, it sort of depends on the exact condition of them. Some you may just be able to clean and spray paint white. Cracks you can scotch tape (preferably on the inside if you can manage it), then spray. For the shattered remnants, I do the best I can. In a lot of cases the tiny shards are just not salvageable. I would try white poster board from the dollar store. Do check out a very early post about restoration of theses houses. There is very detailed info there, and a post about fabrication of closets and doors. If you invest the time into restoring the post covers I guarantee you will be glad you did. They really give a polished, finished look to the house not to mention increase the value. Whether a house has the covers is one of the first things I notice about it. Keep us posted with your progress and any other questions. ;-)

  7. @Skippercollector: Yes, I do too. Furnished or not, that seems steep to today's prices. I think the new A Frame at TRU is $130. So given inflation, this was a special gift in its time. Of course the Magic Mansion was $300 I believe. It lived at Service Merchandise near the G.I. Joe aircraft carrier that was also $300.

  8. The box to the unfurnished house always cracks me up. All the dolls look like they don't know what to do with themselves. And it's interesting that the brunette Steffie-face doll on the balcony was never on the market. I love old box graphics!
